Some people have been fine with it, but it fucked up Windows Explorer for me.

I suggest installing it, but choose the option that allows you to uninstall. (I think it asks if you want to archive the files or not. Pick yes.)

I've had a lot of bad experiences with it. I repair computers on the side, and every single problem in the last month or so has been SP2 related.
It really improves security a lot, and if you had a NEW computer installed with it, that would be fine (although one I bought and installed last week was still SP1 for some reason). *OR* you can go the easy and safer route. Use a firewall program like Nortons, McAfee, or others. Update your antivirus program (a great free one is at avast.com). And most importantly, switch to Netscape Navigator or other Mozilla-based web browser. Navigator adds so much more to your browsing experience (open in new tab, for instance) and has built in pop-up blocker.

That's my 2 cent worth, although I usually charge $30 an hour onsite to tell people the same thing.
